Welcome to Austen in August! This reading event is hosted by Adam at Roof Beam Reader and involves reading, watching, and discussing Jane Austen throughout the month of August. You can learn more about the event (AND SIGN UP) here.
August holds a special place in my heart because it means I get to fangirl over one of my favorites and feel like a fancy fuck while doing it.
Fun fact: I was born on the same day Jane Austen died. Granted, 170 years passed between her last breath and my first, but I still say it means something. Either way, I do adore her. I’ve visited Chawton and Bath. I’ve read all her novels as well as books about her and others on her work, and almost all of what I’ve read comes from this event.
Speaking of the event, it never gets old. Not. Ever. I don’t reread a lot of books that aren’t part of a series, but I love rereading Austen. I learn more every time. I have a lot of friends who don’t care for her, but I’ll never let that deter me from my adoration.
My Austen in August Reads:
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (Reread)
Persuasion by Jane Austen (Reread)
Emma by Jane Austen (Reread)
Jane Austen’s Letters by Jane Austen
I don’t expect to get through all of these, especially now that I see how beastly the letters are, but if I can accomplish two of the four I’ll consider the month a success.
I might also plan a movie marathon or binge The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I’m moving at the end of the month and am editing my novel when I’m not working so movie marathon might not be a real thing, but my sanity may require it near the end.
What will you be reading/watching for Austen in August?
I agree that rereading Austen never gets old! I plan to read: the new Lucy Worsley Austen biography, a couple of contemporary retellings, and (at least start) my Mansfield Park Harvard University Press Annotated edition. I also hope to rewatch some adaptations, including The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Happy Austen in August!

I was born the same day as Austen (though not the same year!) and I hope to get to re-read Persuasion!

I re-binged the Lizzie Bennet Diaries earlier this year and it was SOO worth it to re-binge it 😀 I read Austen (and inspired work) year round, but I do love August when there is so much more from this challenge for me to discover and bookmark to get to later!

My daughters were big fans of the Lizzie Bennet Diary I think I would have to start at the beginning because I never enjoyed them just randomly starting in the middle.
Here is my my first review for Austen in August. I’d be honored if you would take a peek. Longbourn
