It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? [Chicago Edition]

Happy Monday, nerds! I hope everyone is off to a great start this week, and I hope my BEA friends are recovering from all the shenanigans in Chicago. I got to see the lovely princess Julianne once again and meet several blogging friends including Beth, Kristen, Kerry, Shannon, Rachel, Shaina, Marisa, Janani, Katie, Julie, Kim, Florinda, Catherine, Dawn, and Annie. Visit all their blogs and be friends with them.

I ended up with about 50 books from BEA, so that’s how my shelf space anxiety is going. I know I’ll end up giving some away (keep an eye out for that), and I’ll probably sell or donate some of my other books that are taking up space since I’m trying to be more careful with that.

I’ll try to write a better post about BEA, but for now let’s talk about books.

Everything Is Illuminated definitely deserves five stars. Jonathan Safran Foer is wickedly creative with his writing style, and I enjoyed the language between the two narrators.

I’m so happy to have an early copy of Here I Am. Bonus: Foer signed it! I know it’s insane that I finally read Everything Is Illuminated, but all the same I’ve been waiting a long time for a new Foer book. I’m only a couple chapters in, but I think it’s going to be a good one.

Coming Up This Week

No idea! Foer’s book is almost 600 pages so I’ll probably pick a shorter BEA read after that. The Girls by Emma Cline is calling to me.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I’m having serious regret not attending BEA after seeing all these posts! And I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on the Foer…I just finished The Girls and really enjoyed it. It was different than I expected…more subtle.

    • There’s always next year! I felt left out for years and finally decided to go once it was closer to me. (Living in North Dakota, flying to the east coast is super expensive.)

I’m glad you enjoyed The Girls! Foer is going well so far but I’m only about 80 pages in.
