Welcome to It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? This weekly blog meme is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. It allows readers to wrap up the previous week of reading and talk about books for the week ahead.
Last Week
I recently read and watched The Maze Runner, and next came The Scorch Trials. I’m seeing the movie on Thursday so I made my way through the book first, as it should be. The first movie had several differences from the book, some of them pretty big differences, but I still enjoyed both for what they were. I won’t put together a full opinion until I get through the third book, but so far my thought is that the series isn’t perfect, but overall I’m enjoying it. Four stars for both The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials.
Currently Reading
Speaking of a large population dying out due to an unstoppable situation, I started reading The Young Elites yesterday while hanging out with friends at Barnes & Noble. I still need to read Marie Lu’s Legend series, but for now I’m started with the Elites. The second book comes out in October, so hopefully I like this one enough to continue. It has promise so far.
Coming Up This Week
I plan on reading The Color Purple by Alice Walker as part of Banned Books Week. I’ve been meaning to read this one for a long time, so I’m glad this event has finally kicked my arse into gear. Also, look for a giveaway post on Thursday for Banned Books Week.
My other read for the week is The Death Cure, the third book in The Maze Runner trilogy. I would be reading it already because I need to know what happens, but it’s going to have to wait a couple days since I started The Young Elites instead.
Life Outside of Reading
Apart from reading and the typical five-day work week, I have a couple bookish events planned. There’s Banned Books Week, of course, but I also have book club (discussing The Martian) and an Alice in Wonderland themed birthday party for a friend. I’m supposed to dress up as a character for that, but most of the good characters are claimed. I really just want to dress up as Absolem’s hookah or the White Rabbit’s watch. We’ll see how it goes.
What are you reading this week? Any big plans outside of reading?
I have so many things checked out that I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. My plan is hunker down and read as much as possible to clear the shelf before I head out on vacation next week.

Great plan! I need to be more of a library person instead of a buy-all-the-things-when-you-can’t-really-afford-it person. In short, I envy you.

No, I have the same problem. It’s just that the money I don’t spend on books, I spend on board games and video games.

Agreed. There’s always more stuff that I want than money that I have!

Please dress up as a hookah. That would be amazing.

I will if I can think of a good way to do it. 🙂

Yes, please dress up as the hookah and share a pic! I’m reading The Martian and it’s sooooo good. I wish life would stop interfering so I could read it faster.
