Welcome to the master post for #BookBuddyAthon! This readathon is hosted on YouTube by Elena and Sam, and the announcement post with all the details is located here. It runs from September 7th through September 13th.
This readathon is extra special because it involved pairing up with a buddy. Since I had never done this event before I decided to post on Twitter about needing a buddy, and the lovely Sarah reached out with her willingness to put up with me for a week. Yay!
The rules are simple: find five books that suit five different challenges, and read them within the week of the readathon. The challenges and our picks are below.
Challenge #1: Choose three books and get your buddy to pick one of them for you to read.
Me: Atonement by Ian McEwan (reread)
Other Choices: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (reread) and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley (reread)
Sarah: The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings
Other Choices: Tiger Eyes by Judy Blume and The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
Challenge #2: Read a book with your buddy.
We looked at books we have in common on GoodReads that still need to be read, and we decided on Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
Challenge #3: Read a book with your buddy’s favorite color on the cover.
Me: The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There by Catherynne M. Valente (Purple cover)
Sarah: The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (Green cover)
Challenge #4: Read a book your buddy gave 5 stars.
Me: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Sarah: A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway
Challenge #5: Read a book that you want to… just because.
Me: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (reread)
Sarah: The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin
Elena and Sam also put together challenges to do throughout the week on your Twitter/Instagram/blog. I don’t know if I’ll be participating in those yet, but they are located here.
That’s it! Hope everyone participating has a great time. Sarah and I have been excited since we “met” so I know we’re going to have a great time.
Participants: Which challenge/book are you most looking forward to?
