Bout of Books Readathon Updates

BoB14-200x200

If I haven’t already said it a handful of times, IT’S BOUT OF BOOKS WEEK! This post is being used for updates throughout the week. I will update this post as a new day begins until the end of the event.

A reminder of my goals…
1. Read at least 6 books. (Yowza.)
2. Follow 10+ new bloggers on social media. (Hi, new friends!)
3. Comment on 15+ blogger pages. (I love commenting!)
4. Participate in 3+ challenges and/or Twitter chats. (Bring it on.)

A reminder of the books…
1. Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit
2. A Jane Austen Education by Willian Deresiewicz
3. The Book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henríquez
4. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
5. Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
6. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
7. Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith
8. An Untamed State by Roxane Gay
9. A Simple Heart by Gustave Flaubert
10. The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy
11. Room by Emma Donoghue

Day 1 – Monday
Pages Read Today: 152
Total Pages Read: 152
Books Finished Today: 0
Total Books Finished: 0
Notes/Thoughts: Bout of Books is off to a great start! I normally read more during the weekend portion than the rest of the week, so I’m happy with 152 pages. Currently reading Room by Emma Donoghue. A major thing happened in the book last night so I’m still coming down from that. Time to be at work for the day and finish out this tragedy tonight… and then on to something like feminism.
Challenge: Fictional World Travel

Day 2 – Tuesday
Pages Read Today: 293
Total Pages Read: 445
Books Finished Today: 2
Total Books Finished: 2
Notes/Thoughts: Today was an even better day for reading. I finished reading Room and also got through Rebecca Solnit’s Men Explain Things to Me, a book of essays. Both books got four stars. I’m looking forward to reading a couple novellas after work tomorrow, and I might start another novel if there’s time.
Challenge: Scavenger Hunt

Day 3 – Wednesday
Pages Read Today: 166
Total Pages Read: 611
Books Finished Today: 2
Total Books Finished: 4
Notes/Thoughts: I didn’t have a lot of time for reading on Wednesday, but I managed to get through two novellas, The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy and A Simple Heart by Gustave Flaubert. I plan on starting The Book of Unknown Americans by Christina Henríquez on Thursday. It needs to come next because my book club is discussing it on Saturday.
Challenge: None

Day 4 – Thursday
Pages Read Today: 48
Total Pages Read: 659
Books Finished Today: 0
Total Books Finished: 4
Notes/Thoughts: Yesterday ended up being pretty busy after work so I only got 48 pages read. I did manage to have a taco and Harry Potter party with friends, because that combination obviously makes sense.

Challenge: None

Day 5 – Friday
Pages Read Today: 238
Total Pages Read: 897
Books Finished Today: 1
Total Books Finished: 5
Notes/Thoughts: At last, another spectacular reading day! I finished The Book of Unknown Americans and am now ready for book club. I don’t know what I’ll get done for reading the rest of the event. I’m heading to my grandma’s house with my mom after book club. I’m driving the eight hours round trip, and we’ll be there until Monday. Grandma doesn’t have internet, so we’ll see how it goes for updates. If nothing else, I’ll update this page when I get home on Monday. I’m sure I’ll still be on social media for updates (thanks, phone data). Happy reading, everyone!
Challenge: None

Day 6 – Saturday
Pages Read Today: 0
Total Pages Read: 897
Books Finished Today: 0
Total Books Finished: 5
Notes/Thoughts: I didn’t get any reading done today since I spent four hours driving to my grandma’s house and the rest of the time visiting with her.
Challenge: None

Day 7 – Sunday
Pages Read Today: 274
Total Pages Read: 1,171
Books Finished Today: 0
Total Books Finished: 5
Notes/Thoughts: I somehow managed almost all of Dante and Aristotle Discover the Secrets of the Universe despite having my grandma’s birthday party. Loving the book so far, and I can’t wait to finish it once I get home tomorrow.
Challenge: None
