Austen in August: Book and Swag Giveaway

Edit #2: Congratulations to Athena and Meaghan! They are the winners of this giveaway. Athena will receive the Jane Austen package and a copy of Pride and Prejudice. Meaghan will receive the Pride and Prejudice package and a copy of Emma. Many thanks again to everyone who signed up!

Edit: This giveaway is closed. I will contact winners on Tuesday and update again once I hear from the winners. Thanks to everyone who signed up!

I hope everyone is enjoying Austen in August as much as I am! Many thanks to Adam for hosting. So far I have read Love and Freindship, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Emma. I am currently reading the collection of Lady Susan, The Watsons and Sanditon, and will conclude with Mansfield Park.

I am very excited to be hosting the next giveaway. I have yet to write about my Bath and Chawton experiences, but to get myself excited for that post I dug through my England box and found a small collection of Austen swag. Since this stuff would likely continue to sit in a box otherwise, I have decided to include it in my giveaway. Below are the two different prize packages. All items in the two packages were purchased at either the Jane Austen museum in Bath or her home in Chawton.

1. The Jane Austen Package:

This package includes:
I ❤ Jane bumper sticker
I ❤ Jane button
Jane Austen silhouette button
Postcard with the main six novels
The History of England book

2. The Pride & Prejudice Package:

This package includes:
Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth) postcard
Chawton postcard
I ❤ Darcy button
“It is a truth universally acknowledged” button
Mr. Bingley card (Outside Quote: “The ladies were somewhat more fortunate, for they had the advantage of ascertaining from an upper window, that he wore a blue coat and rode a black horse.”)

Each package comes with one of the following (you choose):

THE RULES:
1. You must be 13 years or older.
2. You must be an Austen in August participant.
3. You do not have to be a follower of my blog to enter.
4. No restrictions on location. This is an international giveaway.
5. Winners will be selected using random.org.

TO REGISTER, COMMENT THIS POST WITH THE FOLLOWING:
1. Your favorite Austen character AND/OR which book you’ve most enjoyed during Austen in August.
2. Which prize you would like to win (include book title of choice).
3. Your email address so I can contact you if you win.

This giveaway is open from August 17th (12:01 AM EST) to August 20th (11:59 PM EST). I will select winners on August 21st. The winners will have 48 hours to respond to the email. If there is no response by that time, I will pick again.

Best of luck to everyone!

  1. My favorite Austen character: Captain Wentworth, for finally letting go of his pride and anger in order to have a second chance at happiness.
I’m reading Mansfield Park for Austen in August, but so far I have to say it’s not holding a candle to P&P or P.

I think I’d like the Jane package (sounds like a spa treatment). I’d love a copy of Northanger Abbey, since I haven’t read it yet, and if I had a nice copy on my bookshelf I’d have no more excuses 🙂

    thanks for hosting a giveaway!

  2. I absolutely adore Col Brandon from SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. I’d take him like a shot.

I’d love the Jane Austen Package (though I would be thrilled with either) & a copy of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

  3. I just finished reading Persuasion (for the second time) and so I would have to say my favorite character is now Anne Elliot.
If I was lucky enough to win, I’d choose the Jane package and I’d love a copy of Sense and Sensibility.
    Great give-away… Thank you!

  4. I participated in Austen in August by writing about my stop in Bath and the Jane Austen Centre. I can’t wait to read about yours.
    1. My favorite might be Mr Bingley. He is sweet and silly and always makes me smile.
    2. I’d like to win the second prize pack and a copy of Emma — I haven’t read that one yet.

    • I saw the pictures on your blog of Bath and Somerset and get England pains. I want to go back so bad! Beautiful pictures. I read your post, but maybe I didn’t comment. If not, I need to do that.
      Also…Bingley is so dreamy!

  5. What a great giveaway. I’d love the Pride and Prejudice package, along with that book. Of course Darcy is one of my favorite characters, and of course Colin Firth is dreamy. If I don’t win, I’m going to have to search down that postcard 🙂

  7. Hmm, for favourite character, based on the fact that I read P&P first, it would be Elizabeth Bennet. I adore Darcy a lot but maybe that’s more me wanting to be with him haha. Either way, i love almost of Jane’s heroes and heroines more or less equally. 🙂
Either package would be fine by me; I love the buttons. I guess I’d prefer the Jane one.
    I wouldn’t mind a new copy of P&P. 🙂

    Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

    • It’s difficult to love one hero/heroine more than another, that’s for sure! So many wonderful characters in Austen’s novels. And since the quiz I took told me I’m most like Elizabeth Bennet, I thank you, haha. 🙂

  8. You know what, I love this giveaway & I own all of Austen’s works except The History of England + Persuasion, so I’m going to break my rule and enter anyway!

My favorite character (this is a tough question) is probably Mrs. Jennings from Sense & Sensibility OR Mr. Bennet from Pride & Prejudice. Mr. Bennet just reminds me a lot of what I’d probably be like as a Dad, and Mrs. Jennings is HILARIOUS. I can’t help but think about The Golden Girls whenever she’s in a scene… and I love The Golden Girls.

Please enter me for the Jane Austen package + Persuasion. Thanks!! 🙂

    • I love Mr. Bennet! Since the quiz said I’m Elizabeth Bennet, does that make you my dad in the literary world? At least I’m not Lydia. And Mrs. Jennings is lovely from what I can remember, so great choices!
Also, I’m glad you entered. You’ve worked so hard getting this reading event together. You deserve some goodies too if the luck comes your way to win something. 🙂

  9. This is such a great giveaway!! I’m not entering because I’ve been doing terrible in the event. I started two Austen biofictions and Lady Susan and Mansfield Park, but I have no real idea if I’m getting back to them this month. I like to read by mood, and the mood lifted a coupkle days into the event – ha ha. I want to read Austen when I am totally in the mindset for her, rather than waste my first read only half in the mood. 🙂 But anyway, just to say, Marianne and Elinor Dashwood are my favorite Austen characters. I also laugh whenever I read Mr. Collins saying ANYTHING. Mr. Bennet makes me chuckle. Wentworth is so sweet. Edward Ferriers is honorable and good (in my opinion.) Henry Tilney — ha! He is so funny. 🙂

If I was to choose a package, I’d go for the Pride & Prejudice mix, and a copy of Sense & Sensibility — because the only copyies I own are part of a book of the complete works, and an annotated edition. (Both of these should obviously go to someone far more invested in the event than me! I’m just sharing what I’d pick because I like to window admire.)

    Thanks for hosting!! 🙂

    • You can’t place someone of my personality type in this position, Jillian! I know there are rules, and you’re good to be honest about your reading track and abide by the rules, but my personality type says, “So what? Jillian is awesome, and at least she tried. Trying it just as important.” Hmm…I know you don’t expect something, but it might just happen regardless. If it does, blame my personality type.

Also…I’ve commented in other comments above about many of those characters, so I won’t ramble much longer, but Mr. Collins…just…yeah. I also laugh whenever he opens his mouth, or maybe it’s more of a laugh/groan mixture. Either way, hilarious.

      Like

      • Ha ha — yes, laugh/groan. 😉

My personality cannot possibly read by plan or schedule, so my Austen plans were bound to fail before I began, even though she is one of my most treasured writers! No expectation at all for being entered, but thank you from my personality to yours, for considering it! 😀
